More than 110 national and international experts will gather at El palau from November 24 to 26 for the 43rd edition of the International Conference of the Association of Environmental Archeology (AEA), organized by the Catalan Institute of Classical Archeology (ICAC -SEARCH).

The conference, which will take place in the Eutyches Auditorium, is a testament to the city's prestige and international reputation in this academic field.

The main axis is environmental archaeology, a field of research that links multiple disciplines of archeology with environmental sciences (archaeobotany, archaeozoology, geoarchaeology...) and is one of the specialties of the Landscape Archeology Research Group (GIAP) ) of the ICAC, which leads the organization of the conference. The aim is to investigate the relationship and impact between past societies and their environments, especially in animal and plant ecosystems.

The study of this complex relationship has a direct impact on current issues such as the sustainable development of natural resources, the preservation of biodiversity, the reintroduction and protection of endangered species, the protection of heritage and social dynamics such as migration , others.

With more than 80 papers, the conference "represents an exceptional opportunity to share the latest advances in the discipline at an international level and generate a space for debate from a global and inclusive perspective" says Alexandra Livarda, Ramón y Cajal researcher at the ICAC and coordinator of the event. "We will contribute to the understanding and preservation of our past, highlighting the wide impact and relevance of environmental archeology to face the current challenges of society".

The presence of international experts and the dissemination of the congress will contribute significantly to the promotion of Tarragona as a cultural destination, and once again highlights the economic potential of congress tourism in the city. The choice of Tarragona as the seat of the AEA's annual conference consolidates its key position as a hub international for archeology research, and highlights the city's rich historical and cultural heritage.

The international conference AEA2023Tgn has the support of the Port of Tarragona, the Tarragona Municipal Tourism Board, and the Catalan Association of Bioarchaeology (ACBA), Grup Bon Preu and BAR Publishing, who have made the conference possible.
