The world premiere of this ballet with music by Ludwig Minkus was at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow on December 26, 1869, at the request of the Russian Imperial Theaters. Petipà himself would review this work on many occasions and, based on different versions by the choreographer Alexander Gorski, he reconstructed the work in 1900 with great success.

The plot focuses mainly on the love between Kitri and Basil and their adventures with the legendary characters Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, taken from the second volume of Cervantes' novel. Cristina Terentiev, Aleksandr Petrichenko and Alexei Terentiev accompanied by the whole Moscow Ballet will delight us with the most emblematic work of theatrical dance.
