MORE THAN 900 PARTICIPANTS IN THE WOMEN'S CONGRESS

From 26 to 28 May 2016, the Palau Firal i de Congressos de Tarragona will host the IV Congress of the Catalan Association of Midwives (ACL), The XV Congress of the Federation of Matron Associations of Spain (FAME) and the 2nd ICM Southern European Region Conference. The relevance of the conference is highlighted by the number of participants and the participating speakers, including one of the two midwives who attended the birth of Kate Middleton, NHS England teacher and head of maternity, Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent.

Three days in which the assistance of more than 900 professionals in the sector, both national and international, is expected. The congress will give a boost to the city of Tarragona both in terms of congress and financial level as it will concentrate in 3 days a large number of people who will be accommodated and enjoy the heritage, culture and gastronomy of the city.

Under the motto "Listening to women, thinking like midwives", the congress seeks reflection to find the needs and concerns of women through dialogue with them. A workspace that will be used to discuss different care visions carried out by midwives in both primary and community care and hospital care. In addition, the congress will be the meeting point between midwives in Southern Europe.

Renowned national and international speakers will take part in the scientific program of the congress to discuss issues, incorporate new perspectives on care, innovation and research that can undoubtedly improve sexual and reproductive health care.

Among the workshops that will be held are, among others, the A.attention to water birthMfetal monitoring and Cpractical culinary urs, with recommended diets from conception to the first years of life. The first 1.000 days.

The meeting will also be used to vindicate the professional skills of midwives through the Marea Rosa promoted by FAME and under the slogan "Now more than we never need more midwives". With this motto the midwives want to express and publicize the need to have an adequate number of midwives to guarantee quality and excellent assistance to the population and to be at the level of other European countries with regard to the number of midwives per population of women.

The Congress will be inaugurated by Mrs. Gemma Falguera, president of the Catalan Association of Midwives (ACL), Mrs. Cristina Martínez, president of the Federation of Spanish Midwifery Associations (FAME), Mrs. Frances Day-Stirk, President of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and Mrs. Rita Borg, Member of the Board of Directors of the ICM for the Southern European Region, will also be present at the inauguration. The Mayor of Tarragona and representatives of the Department of Health.
